GREAT NEWS - SEMINARIANS MATT DUCLOS AND STEPHEN YUSKO ARE GOING TO ROME!
I recall writing a similar message to a similar group of people one year and two months ago! Tonight I am humbled to share an upcoming step in my journey.
Bishop Scharfenberger, Fr. Berberian (Vicar for Clergy) and Fr. Ligato (Vicar for Vocations) have been in Rome over the past few days to visit the Pontifical North American College (NAC), which is a seminary for men from the United States, Canada, and Australia. The Diocese has not sent anyone to study there for the past 19 years, and that length of time warranted a visit to reevaluate the formation program they have.
Bishop Scharfenberger has decided to send myself and Stephen Yusko from Hudson, NY to continue our seminary formation at the NAC in Rome next year. This came as a complete surprise to us as we received the news several days ago and I think I am still in shock! I feel tremendously honored to be selected to attend the NAC and represent the Diocese of Albany (and Corpus Christi!) among 250 men from across the country, and the past few days have been full of praying, learning about this institution, and overcoming some overwhelming emotions.
I myself still have many questions about what's to come, but I wanted to share this news as a point of information and a petition for your continued prayers for myself and Stephen. Most likely, this will involve a month of studying Italian in Assisi this summer before beginning classes at the Pontifical Gregorian University in the fall. Typically, seminarians stay for two years straight before returning home for the summer after the second year. The program at the NAC will replace the previous plan of attending Dunwoodie in Yonkers. If you're like me and want to learn more, their website is very helpful: www.pnac.org
Please know that each of you has impacted me in a significant way and I have only you to thank for your individual influences on my life. Looking back, it's obvious how Christ has been present in this process and a step like this into the unknown is a reason to develop a deeper relationship of trust.
Please feel free to share this message with anyone. Corpus Christi: I am looking forward to seeing you on Easter Sunday!
Thank you, especially for your prayers and support.
